I would like to share with you four flowers to consider having in your home during the holidays because of the way they support us. Traditionally, or in the past anyway, most of us during the holidays spent this time with our families and close friends. This year Covid has dampened our gatherings some, but many are finding creative ways to still gather together by phone, internet or in other creative ways. These four flowers in some ways may be even more powerful this holiday season for you to have in your homes because you’re not able to be in person with those you love.
First off is lavender. Yes, lavender for the holidays and actually lavender for me is a year round flower I enjoy in my home. Maybe you already enjoy lavender essential oils in your bath or diffuser and that’s a good thing to continue using if you do. Lavender is soothing to our souls. Her scent helps to warm and melt away our fears and stress. She’s super calming for anxiety and clearing of any negative energies you may be dealing with. Lavender isn’t available in my area fresh this time of year but I do enjoy working with dried lavender. During the summers I gather fresh lavender and dry it for winter wreaths and bouquets to enjoy in my home all year long. So if you’re struggling with anxiety and stress this holiday season a little vase of dried lavender is one the top flowers I recommend you bring into your home. Even taking time to sit and enjoy pictures of lavender can help to calm your spirit and sooth your soul.
Second flower I like to have around is the chrysanthemum. Mums have been around forever it seems and we do see them used in a lot of floral designs all year long. Mums come in a variety of colors so you can bring them into your home in a color that suits your taste. Choose one that makes you happy. It might be the larger spider, football or single cushion mums or the smaller button, cushion or snowflake varieties. I tend to use a lot of white mums in December and I like to tuck a few of them into almost all of my centerpiece designs because of their energic support to families. Chrysanthemums are like sending a big family hug of support. Their energies help us to keep the peace among our family members dissolving tensions and conflicts so we experience more harmony among each other. They can help us heal relationship tensions and during this time of separation from our loved ones mums really are a comforting flower.
Third on my list to enjoy is the daisy. Daisies, those sweet summer time flowers are also available through your florist all year round are worth having a small vase full in your home for the holidays. The daisy lifts our spirits, cheers us up, makes us smile and reminds us to spend alittle more time doing what we love most. They help bring our focus back to what maters in our life and can be a big support to helping us simplify areas in our lives that feel overwhelming. Often after the holidays many of us will want to do deep cleaning, clutter clearing of sorts and daisies can help support you in that too. If you’re wanting to enjoy this magical time of the year more and have your spirits lifted, I highly encourage you to enjoy daisies.
The fourth choice probably won’t surprise you to much, it’s the poinsettia. We see them available in almost all the stores and in a wide variety of colors. Poinsettia’s are like the daisy in helping us focus on what brings us the most joy. Pick a color that makes your heart sing because her energy is an up-lifter, one of happiness and laughter. Holiday cheer certainly is enjoyed more with a poinsettia or two in your home. She’s also a great flower to focus on at the end of year as you are evaluating your goals and the direction you desire to go in the New Year. Poinsettia can help you to refocus and re-center so you can delightfully welcome in new opportunities in the year ahead. She also can help remind us of what our true life purpose is. I believe we are meant to enjoy our life experiences fully and the poinsettia helps us do that.
Even if you’re not able to bring fresh flowers into your homes I encourage you to spend some time looking at pictures of them. use them as focal points during a meditation or deep breathing exercises. All flowers all beneficial and supportive to our lives. These are just four that can help uplift our spirits, calm anxiety and help us enjoy one another and life to the fullest.
I wish you all the happiest of holidays!
Sue
